Isuzu Queensland Open Round 1

After the 1st round of the Isuzu Queensland Open I have shot a score of 75 (+4) to be T82nd. Hot day with wind topping 30km/h especially going into the back nine maybe more.

Starting on the 1st I hit 1 and 2 greens in regulation making pars. Would have been nice to drop one before I headed into the front nine amen corner 3, 4 and 5. Did well to only have 1 over missing all those greens in that section. Great drive to a good angle on 6 lead to a birdie chipping the ball to a metre. 7 another close approach and was unable to make for birdie.

It was a disappointing finish to the last 2 holes of the front nine. My 2nd shot at the par 4 8th, looked awesome in the air. I was starting down landing the 8iron approach 2m short of the flag and 8m later on an up slope it rolled over the back. Fairly easy putt from off the green I missed my par opportunity from 2.5m. The leaking of shots flowed from 9 then into the start of the back nine’s amen corner 10 and 11. (Amen corner on the back nine – 10, 11, 12 and 13). Driver in the bunker, couldn’t go for the green in 2 then 2 three putts in a row.

Only hitting 12, 16 and 18 greens to finish I birdied 2 which were 12 and 18. Soft bogey on a short par 4 being out of play off the tee at 15 and a double bogey late in the round at 17.

10 greens 32 putts. Overall I felt I positioned the ball awesome off the tee and hit some great approaches that surprised me when the ball landed on the greens. Did not take the opportunities early that were there to be had. The greens became rock hard and putts were hard to predict line and speed with how dry the greens became. Still in it to make a good result for the week. Teeing off at 7.05am for round 2.
